A: The mayor is the chief executive officer for the Taunton City Government. The Mayor is responsible for the municipal budget and to ensure that the citizens get a wide variety of quality services for their tax dollars. The Mayor chairs the weekly meetings of the city council and the Mayor chairs the formal meetings of the School Committee meetings that occur every other week. The Mayor works with the Superintendent of Schools to ensure that the students are provided a quality education. The Mayor works in concert with business leaders to encourage economic growth in the community.
